Relics of the Buddha visiting Santa Fe! Open to the Public, Free Admission.

UPDATES:

There will be an animal blessing ceremony with the relics at Thubten Norbu Ling Tibetan Buddhist Center, 1807 Second St., #35, Santa Fe, NM 87505 on Thursday, December 5 from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.  Since pets are not allowed on the Immaculate Heart of Mary grounds where the Relic Tour will be on display, we’re happy to offer an opportunity for you to have your pets blessed at TNL on the afternoon before it opens. Please be sure to have your well-behaved dogs on leashes and cats in carriers to avoid any mishaps during the blessings. If you cannot make it that day, there will be blessed water at the Relic Tour that you can use for blessings as well.

Maitreya Heart Shrine Relic Tour and Thubten Norbu Ling Tibetan Buddhist Center are proud to announce that a precious collection of sacred relics of the Buddha and many other Buddhist masters will be making its second-to-last stop on the North American tour in Santa Fe from December 5-8, 2013, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Retreat and Conference Center.  This is a rare opportunity to view these relics, which were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters.  Many of these relics resemble beautiful, pearl-like crystals.  Buddhists believe relics embody the master’s spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom and are deliberately produced by the master at his death.

Visitors often report experiences of inspiration and healing when in the presence of the relics.  While some are inspired to pray for world peace and to develop their inner wisdom, others are overcome by emotion as the powerful effects of the relics open their hearts to compassion and loving-kindness.  Visitors may request a personal blessing in which the relics of the Buddha are gently placed on the crown of the visitor’s head.

The relics are clearly visible inside display cases that encircle a life-size, golden statue of the Maitreya Buddha. According to Buddhist scriptures, Maitreya will be the next Buddha to bring teachings of loving-kindness to the world.  Eventually, some of these relics will be enshrined in a 150-ft/45-m bronze statue of Maitreya Buddha to be built in Bodhgaya, northern India.  The Relics were collected over many year by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the Spiritual Founder of the Relic Tour.

Please stay tuned for important updates and information regarding the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, December 5, 2013, and other special events.
